There was some nasty problems with our last vps. We're at a new host, since our previous got bought out. This new vps seems to be coming along a lot nicer. Been rather busy, so it took me quite some time to get everything up and running. I'm sure no one noticed though. Undecided

We'll probably be changing servers very soon, you may not be able to access the site due to an IP change and the DNS taking a bit long to change over. I've decided not to stay with with hosting at gate.com and possibly move over to veggiehost.com. I haven't figured out yet why they're a "veggie" host. Undecided Their plans are reasonable and they offer a gentoo vps which is what I've been looking for. I'll probably end up with a less expensive plan than we currently use now because I doubt will need the extra disk space/bandwidth. Just a heads up if you can't access the site in the next few days.

We've now upgraded to the latest version of elgg. The upgrade was a little shaky requiring some import hacks from the previous version (we were pretty out of date). I think I've managed to get most things working from the looks of it. The one feature we've lost in the calender is events spanning multiple dates. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If I had more time available I might try to hack it in there myself. Please let us know if you encounter any bugs or problems!

Geekpunks.net now has a new Rosetta@HOME team.

Rather than waste computer power when not in use, you can utilise your desktop to become part of a huge distributed computer network that will help find a cure for cancer, identify protein defects that cause disease and various other research projects for the good of humanity.

Like the SETI@HOME project, but perhaps a better use of the technology, you can contribute through the BOINC client agent using the project url 'boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta'.

Find out more by following the below link.

Out apologies for the downtime. Moved to a new server and have been stressed for time to get things configured and going how we like them. Please let us know of any bugs/problems you run into.

Thank You,

Good morning everyone. We've ordered a VPS server from gate.com, hopefully the transition will go smoothly, and in a timely fashion. Tomorrow, November 4th, should be the last day we're hosted on vrtservers. So, you might expect some down time, but we're going to try and keep it minimal. Don't loose faith in us! We just need...time.

Well it's been a bad past couple of five days for us here at the #geekpunks camp. The server went down to network problems down at the colo. Not a good time for us to go down either, with the tiny bit of influx of people that have shown a bit of interest for the site (for whatever reason). At any rate, chances are we will be moving hosts due to this upset! Really quite unnacceptable. So there might be some more downtown in the next couple of weeks to come whilst we search the stars for a new data centre we can call "home." Or someone's home internet connection. ;)

Chances are we will be colocating a brand spanking new box. But with a bit of lack of funds, we're not too sure how we might go about pulling this off too cleanly. If you can find it in you some where, feel free to donate! Spare parts (would like to find a 1u in decent condition, or a spare pc that's not too out of date). Just need the essentials, CPU, box. None of the fancy CD-Rom drive, floppy drive crap. I've got a spare IDE drive laying around (~150Gb) so we don't need much.

Feel free to join us on irc on #geekpunks @ freenode.net or drop us a line at beeplogic [ @ ]gmail.com

For the few of you who visted geekpunks prior to today, we've (militia) changed the default layout a bit to the site. We got rid of the cheesy random 'punk'/'geek' type images that randomly changed and settled for something a little different. Let us know what you think, or if something was broken. Suggestions are more than welcomed as well.

This software is pretty much beta, and running an older version of it. We've got an updated version on a dev site, but It seems much slower and takes some tinkerying with. That and the calander seems to have "dissapeared". I could probably fix the minor bugs with this thing, so feel free to submit them some how.
